tips and tricks for new paddlers What to expect on Your First Paddle?
Then, we'll organise a paddle and take you through the basic steps on land while sitting in a dragon boat (sounds odd I know, but it works), and then out on the water with a group of other paddlers. We buddy up new paddlers with an experienced paddler where possible. The paddling action is a bit odd, so don't be surprised if it takes a few sessions to get into the swing of it; but once you get that 'vibe', away you go. What to Wear and Bring with You It is a water sport and you may get splashed while in the boat, or occasionally have to wade in the water while getting in or out of a boat - so wear suitable clothes and shoes that will dry out. To be honest, it's not a stylish sport, unless you like the 'dripping wet' look. If there is a breeze, a spray jacket is a good idea. Safety on the Water You'll be out on the water, so if you can't swim or aren't a strong swimmer, let us know and we can fit you out with a stylish flotation vest. The paddling action can put a strain on your shoulders, although it is up to you how much. If you have an old injury or get the odd twinge, let us know and we'll take you through the best way to avoid any problems.
