Memorable Quote

"If we don't win this, keep paddling to the other end of the lake".

Spoken by men in the boat during the recent regatta. As the Flyers had put in the only Open Team (with 15 blokes and Carolyn who kept the blokes in line), they were put in with the Women's Heats. If they hadn't come in first, then the bragging rights would have gone to the Flyers' Women's crew.

Dragon Gas (or some call it gossip)

It's all been happening over the past couple of months - too much for a poor webmaster to keep up with; but I'll try.

The 2008 PanPacs and come and gone - with people who went and stories to tell

The PanPacs have been and gone - with a lot of sore muscles, tired arms and a couple of headaches. But it was all worth it.

Memorable events from the PanPacs included:

  • The connection between the 4 Tops and Dragon Boating
  • Why they give new sweeps day-glo tops
  • Daryl Brathwaite and Mental As Anything, despite being older than some of the masters, could still belt out a tune or two

The Grandmasters Womens' team picked up Silver in the 200m and 500m categories. The 500m was particularly close and a real test of character, with only 1 second separating first to fourth. The Flyers managed to pip the Brisbane River Dragon by 0.29 seconds to grab second. This is a real credit to their hard work and the coaching of Robyne Kellett (she’s ours now!) and captaining of Val Field

The Flyers' girls paddling in the Masters categories (who filled in with the Open category, as well as the Mixed) and the blokes, combined with some of the Port Hacking crew and Drew & Bob from Navmat put in credible performances to make the medal finals. In the Mixed category they came in fourth, only 5 benches behind the first placed team.

The PanPac's Diary covering the lastest on efforts, exploits and errors committed during the event is being updated over the past few days.

I'm a Fit Flyer No 3 - Make People Laugh at You

Laughing tones your stomach and lowers your blood pressure. It’s scientifically proven! Even the concentration of salivary immunoglobulin A is raised by laughing – guarding our respiratory tract from infection – but that in itself isn’t very funny.
